Aluminum (Element 13) is a fairly soft and easy to work with metal. It melts around ~660c (~1220F), a temperature easily obtained in a home foundry. It’s fairly forgiving in terms of casting if you aren’t preparing to do any serious tool or part making (and fairly easy to get ingots of the correct alloys when you do want to).
Ultimately, this project is a continuing set of observations in terms of casting, casting processes, and metallurgy in general. I will also cover any lessons I learn along the way, like how to sand cast, and making flasks (hint for incoming entries!).
I don’t know where this is going to go, but the fun is in the journey, so they say!
